The Classics! were filmed during the wonderful apocalyptic days of 2020, from April to August. At least 13 famous Classical pieces were animated, and though I had plans for much more, these I think are among my best. These best ones I shall upload for, as magnificent as they are, deserve to be seen. One piece stands out from the rest with the most heart, effort and dedication. This one. From the beginning of the Movie Club in 2013, a very short film was released named Peter meets the Werewolf (which was unprofessional as the wolf wasn’t a werewolf at all.) Two shorter but faithful adaptations followed in 2014 and then a more longer and dramatic version in 2015. By 2016-17 the “Classical Phase” was big so Classical-related films were in mind. Not until 2018 did this happen: when my art teacher at school suggested I do a animation for my final project, I consented to it and conceived The Riot of Spring, a take on the riot at Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring (the subject was about a historical event.) Mr Gustard died in 2022 so I later dedicated it to him. And like Peter, the gates was open and I went searched for adventures. In April 2018 I produced Pictures at an Exhibition (absolutely complete mind you,) then followed with Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals. Both of these I adored especially Peter. The following years were spent to fairy tales (which I loved more than anything I had done then,) and a few more Classical pieces (which I didn’t find fascinating, except for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.) In 2020, as I had mentioned, with nothing to do, I turned to the world of Classical again; some pieces I had animated I thought magnificent and some I thought alright. I shall upload the best of these, including Peter and the Wolf. The first filmed of the set, I remained proud of it, although I felt the end was rushed, (and as you may notice the snow was evaporating) but still I was happy with it. The recording used is the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcom Sargent in 1959. The same recording used for the 2018 film with Sir Ralph Richardson narrating, except I found a version without the narrator. Decca - Simple Prokofiev, 1999. Filmed. 29/4/20-10/5/20.
