Long video in the description at the bottom. Benji ran from his new home in the Warrenville area with only one sighting as he crossed Route 59 and into a neighborhood. The next day the owner Jesus reached out to SmithicAir for their services. Denise (dog search volunteer) was already hard at work hanging flyers and assisting with the search. SmithicAir was able to locate Benji on Fermilab property but a luring attempt with Jesus, Denise, and a sibling dog failed. Linda, another dog search volunteer, joined in to assist and brought her trap. It was set up with food and a camera but not set. Unfortunately, Benji did not visit the trap and was out for a second freezing night. The team assembled the next day and SmithicAir was able to find Benji again. The team tried a number of luring attempts again without success. Due to the location, it was impossible to move the trap closer to where Benji was. The owner requested SmithicAir's help late that night so he could attempt to recover his dog with the help of family and friends. Unfortunately, this did not go well and Benji was pushed from the safe area. The next day SmithicAir was mistakenly informed that we could not fly over Fermilab and the trap was removed from the property. Benji's dad and this dog's owner joined the search team but Benji was only seen in the morning by Fermilab employees. SmithicAir communicated with Fermilab to clear up the airspace misunderstanding. Fermilab did a great job allowing access as best as they could and assisted with the search. Many thanks! Five days after Benji ran, the team assembled once more but this time Mike Davis from Best Furry Friends - Search and Rescue assisted with his drone as SmithicAir had a previous commitment. Mike was able to find Benji quickly and the parent dog was once again. Denise and Linda did the best they could and worked many hours without being able to use their usual tactics. Benji ran again but this time was different. He ran north onto Joliet Road and then across 38. A sighting came in as he entered a neighborhood and somehow Benji walked up to a house and was let inside by the homeowner. The nightmare was over. Benji is safe and the family is reunited. Benji has frostbite in multiple places. He is being treated and will be observed closely in the days to come. Long video link: • Benji found multiple times and finally hom...
