Our chakra system is often misunderstood and mystified, although the whole system has a very practical side. Learning more about your chakras can help you to identify any imbalances in your life, and working with them can help you to know and understand yourself better. Developing an awareness of your chakra system will help you to make the right choices in your everyday life. For example: what to eat, what meditation or yoga practice to do, identify which area in your life need more self-compassion. The chakra system is an interconnected structure of energy centres in our bodies (in Kundalini yoga there are 8 chakras). Think about chakras as a process in the evolution of our human consciousness. Hence, when we use the expression that a ‘chakra is imbalanced’, it is the case that our consciousness isn’t balanced with qualities and values related to that specific chakra. 6th Chakra: Third Eye chakra The centre of perception, consciousness and intuition Physical location: between the eyes Element: earth Colour: indigo The endocrine gland related to this chakra: pineal Physical manifestations of imbalance can be: headaches, blurred vision, sinus problems, hearing difficulties, dizziness If our third eye chakra is unbalanced we: Doubt ourselves Feel lost Rely on others for validation and permission Lack of purpose Feel disconnected from the world If our third eye chakra is balanced we: Are able to connect to the present moment See things from a wider perspective Are able to perceive the more subtle qualities of life Are open to intuitive sensibility and inner perception How can you balance your third eye chakra? Try these affirmations: “I honour and trust my intuition” “I learn from my experiences” “I am connected to the universe” “I have clarity and peace of mind” “I look both inward and outward for wisdom” “I am receiving and I am trusting” Try visualisation techniques. Meditate and tune in to your inner guidance. Try essential oils like frankincense, rosemary, sandalwood, patchouli, and myrrh. Wear indigo, eat indigo foods, surround yourself with indigo to enjoy the vibration of this colour. Write in your journal or start a dream diary.
