Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Psalm 114, op. 51 "Da Israel aus Ägypten zog" is a monumental work for orchestra and eight voices. The choral work which was composed in 1839, and had its world premiere in 1840, has been reworked. It’s a poetic prehistory of the people of Israel. Psalm 114 had special meaning for Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Quote: "The piece grew on me, although it's a hard one for the so-called audience to care about." For a long time the score to the music had been forgotten. But at the 2018 Beethovenfest in Bonn, the Bonner Kammerchor and Cologne's Chorus Musicus will join forces, accompanied by the Orchestra Rheinton, conducted by Christoph Spering.
