I mark the approximate shoulder length on the back piece – 9cm. I join the reference points with the intersection of the central vertical line and the waistline. And I draw a gracefully shaped back neckline. The whole construction will be thicker after I glue together several layers of cardboard, so we need to account for it in all major circumferences. I measure the thickness: it is 1.5cm. In order to account for that thickness I take the template and trim 7mm along the entire length of the side seam, the crotch length and the shoulders. Then I put the template over the cardboard. I turn it upside down and smear it with glue. You don't need to try too hard to glue the template onto the cardboard since we're going to wrap the entire construction in film. I glue the template onto the cardboard. And then I take a small paintbrush to secure the corners that are coming off. Then I take a cutter and start cutting out the template. I do it on a mat just in case. I also use a ruler whenever possible. You can use scissors or French curves, too. The goal is to cut it out as precisely as you can. I have cut out the first layer of the dress-form! We need a total of four layers.
