In 1976, Steve Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer and helped shape the computing industry with his design of the Apple I computer. The next year, he introduced his Apple II personal computer, featuring a central processing unit, a keyboard, colour graphics, and a floppy disk drive. We probably take personal computers for granted now, but at the time Steve Wozniak saw the shape of things to come by designing and building the Apple I and II and influencing the popular Macintosh. Steve embodied innovation with a capital I. For his achievements at Apple Computer, in 1985, Steve was awarded the National Medal of Technology by Ronald Reagan, then the President of the United States, this is the highest honour bestowed on America’s leading innovators. In 2000, Steve was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame and was awarded the prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy and Employment for “single-handedly designing the first personal computer and for then redirecting his lifelong passion for mathematics and electronics toward lighting the fires of excitement for education in grade school students and their teachers. Steve is also passionate about teaching and in his autobiography iWoz, he describes a poignant moment how he could use computers to help inspire children. Steve Wozniak and Nadine Dereza 2008
