Uganda National Bureau of Standards has organized a number of media trainings in different regions to train journalists on standards and metrology reporting as a way of strengthening the public's awareness of the certifications and the importance of not using substandard products.Victoria Namutebi Wamala, a senior public relations officer at UNBS, said the move is aimed at reaching out to consumers and the business community across different regions of Uganda."In Mbale the training is happening from 2nd to 5th March, and we are holding similar trainings in Gulu, Jinja, Mukono, Gulu, and Mbarara to enable us to close the gap of low staffing at the bureau that cannot reach out to all the parts, and we want to use media to reach out to the people in the language they best understand," she said.John Kisitu, a legal metrologist in charge of the UNBS Mbale office, said they are waiting for the law by Parliament to strengthen their work.
