Digos City, Davao del Sur June 6, 2024 From Davao del Norte, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. proceeds to Digos City, Davao del Sur on 6 June 2024 to hand over agri-fishery livelihood projects geared towards the attainment of food sufficiency and increased income of farmers and fisherfolk, as well as continue the distribution of various assistance to intended beneficiaries who have been greatly affected by the El Niño phenomenon in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental. Amounting to a total of PhP36.71 million, the President turns over post-harvest facility, equipment and materials under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Rice and Corn Programs; fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) boats, fishing gears and paraphernalia under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ (BFAR) Fisheries Development Program; and toolkits under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) Special Training for Employment Program. These interventions are pursuant to the DA’s development plan to increase agricultural productivity, lower food cost, ensure food security, and make farming and fisheries a more bankable investment alternative. Thereafter, President Marcos Jr. distributes cash assistance worth PhP10,000 each to select beneficiaries from Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental aside from individual checks worth almost PhP20 million and PhP10 million for the Provincial Governments of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental, respectively. Furthermore, several government agencies consisting of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), TESDA, Philippine Coconut Authority and the Office of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez are distributing various assistance to identified recipients, trainees and attendees at the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium.
