I think articles are perhaps the most difficult grammar point for IELTS test-takers to master. Why? Well, it is simply the number of rules that you have to remember. Even though we only have four small articles (a . an / the / Ø, there are literally dozens of rules for how they are used. And, because we need the majority of our sentences to be error free to achieve a 7 or higher in the exam, it can be difficult for even high-level students to limit their errors to just 2 or 3 in the essay. So, what can we do to limit our article errors? That's what Shelly will focus on in today's lesson. The first step is learning the 7 general article rules. These are the 7 rules that apply to all nouns in an essay and are, therefore, the ones that you must learn. Then, once you have mastered the general article rules, you can turn to the specific ones that we have for different types of nouns (the ones for mountains and rivers and towns, etc). For this, we have a 3-minute slideshow that you can return to again and again to check your knowledge. 🟩 Do the practice activities for this lesson: https://www.myieltsclassroom.com/prog... 🟧 Watch all our free IELTS video lessons: https://www.myieltsclassroom.com/page... 🟨 Download our free ebook "An ex-examiner's guide to the IELTS band descriptors": https://blog.myieltsclassroom.com/iel... 🟩 Listen to our weekly IELTS podcast: https://blog.myieltsclassroom.com/cat... 🟧 Join Shelly in one of our IELTS courses: https://www.myieltsclassroom.com/page... 🟨 Read our IELTS blog posts: https://blog.myieltsclassroom.com
