PNILIPS AD1250 12" Fullrange Speaker AlNiCo mic’d recording FANTASTIC SOUND!

🎧 Air recording of a PHILIPS AD1250 mounted in an open baffle. The AD1250 is one of my favorite 12-inch full-range drivers. It has a wonderfully natural sound that’s very different from most modern hi-fi products, and I believe it truly shines in an open-baffle setup. This particular unit uses an Alnico magnet. Compared with the ferrite-magnet version such as the AD1265, it offers a stronger sense of depth and three-dimensionality, as well as richer and more substantial low-midrange presence. The open baffle shown here is based on an original PHILIPS design, but I built it about 10% smaller. It’s made from two layers of 15 mm MDF, and finished with a special paint containing aluminum particles — the same type used for climbing-wall volumes. I feel that the slightly rough texture of the baffle surface helps the sound become clearer and more natural. I’d love to hear your thoughts and impressions.
