This is due to the high progesterone levels during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. And, these ulcers will temporarily regress during pregnancy. Sensitivity to certain foods, including acidic foods such as strawberries, citrus fruits, and pineapples, tomatoes, mushrooms, and coffee, will also increase the occurrence of mouth ulcers. Hematinic deficiencies, such as iron deficiency, folate, and vitamin B12 deficiency, will also increase the risk of mouth ulcers. Other causes include, malabsorption in gastro intestinal disorders such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, pernicious anemia, and dermatitis herpetiformis. Immune deficiencies, including immunosuppressive therapy, HIV AIDS, and neutropenia. Certain medications, including non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, alendronate, nicorandil, and anti viral agents such as acyclovir. Using toothpastes and mouth wash containing sodium lauryl sulphate.
