During the season of Lent, we will spend five Sundays preparing our hearts for Passion Week by meditating on the glory of Christ’s atoning work. The Cross is not one-dimensional. Jesus did not accomplish merely one thing—he accomplished many. Scripture gives us rich language to describe what his blood achieved. Each week we will focus on a distinct benefit of the atonement: Propitiation (he stood in my place), Justification (he made me right), Redemption (he bought me back), Reconciliation (he brought me close), and Pacification (he gave me peace). These are not theological technicalities—they are treasures. Together they answer the question: What does the blood of Jesus accomplish? It satisfies wrath, declares righteousness, pays our ransom, restores relationship, and ends the war. As we meditate on the crucifixion and resurrection, may our theology be refined, our worship intensified, and our obedience strengthened.
