The charge of the 4th Australian Light Horse at Beersheba, late in the afternoon of the 31st of October 1917, is remembered as the last great cavalry charge. The 4th Light Horse Brigade charged the heavily fortified town of Beersheba The charge began at dusk, with the brigade using their bayonets as swords. The Australians' surprise attack carried them through the Turkish defenses and secured the town.
