I give up, I surrender this time. A local friend had gave me a small 250 watt isloation transformer, but better than that, I was looking around for something else and found a 450 watt isolation transformer. Hence, with the Widowmaker, errr Footwarmer sitting on the shelf, I decided to hook it back up but with the isolation transformer and the variac and give it another whirl. The last time I tried it without the isolation transformer, before I even powered it up, there was sizzle frazzle. It seems I may have a line Hot/Neutral problem.....or maybe its the amp. Anyway, the isolation problem should have taken care of that. So, this time, still put the gloves on, at least when I hooked it up, but with it not turned on, no sizzle frazzle. However, with the HV probe connected and me watching the meter as I slowly variac'ed it up, no joy. Was getting weird ac readings on the plate HV. Thats as far as I got. I'm done, cancel Christmas, waving the white flag. Buttoning it up and going to just get rid of it. Asking $100 (plus the ride). It is being sold completely as/is, faulty, not working, for parts or you fix. Not me. I'm done. Got bigger and better things to do. Taking the gloves off and moving on. Not going to play with the Widowmaker and let her make my wife a widow. If I can't get $100 for it, I may either take it to Dayton, or I may keep it but convert it and use a normal transformer based power supply instead of the direct ac type of supply it uses now. It does have a hole cutout in the top cover over the tubes. Maybe someone mounted a fan there. Other than that, it looks great, but no workie.
