Didcot Railway Centre 'D-DAY 70th ANNIVERSARY EVENT' - 08/06/2014

Didcot Railway Centre's event to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings on the weekend of June 7th-8th 2014. Star attraction was GWR 8750-class 0-6-0PT No.3650 running with a Spark-Arrestor on the chimney paying homage to classmate No.4601 who ran with one during the Second World War. Didcot was a Munitions Depot so it was vital no sparks caused the explosives to go off or even give away its position to enemy aircraft. The 'Pannier' performed shunting demonstrations outside the Engine Shed and worked two goods trains one on the Main Demonstration Line in the late morning and one on the Branch Line in the afternoon. Also in action were GWR 4300-class 2-6-0 No.5322 working passenger trains on the Main Demonstration Line whilst GWR AEC Railcar No.22 worked on the Branch Line. Other attractions included an Army Unit, a Ukulele Band and there was meant to be a flypast of a Supermarine Spitfire, but unfortunately it had broken down before takeoff and didn't show.
