The Hollywood Museum had its Red Carpet opening of the "Our Gang: 100th Anniversary" exhibit on July 27, 2022. The exhibit officially began on July 28, 2022 and will run through October of 2022. "Our Gang" is known best these days as the (original) Little Rascals. The film series began as silent shorts known as "two-reelers back in 1922, produced by Hal Roach Studios, the same studio that started the careers of Harold Lloyd and Laurel and Hardy, among other classic comedians. In 1938, MGM took over production of the series after the shorts had been reduced in length to "one-reelers" and the series continued until 1944. It was revived through theatrical re-issues and, most importantly, through television syndication during its early years and continuing to this day. The Hollywood Museum's owner Donelle Dadigan and curator Steve Nyclemore, with exhibit organizer Robert Satterfield put together an outstanding display honoring Hal Roach and his Rascals, and gave the Gang a literal red carpet treatment for the premiere of the exhibit. 94-year-old Sid Kibrick (who played "Woim", the sidekick to bully "Butch", and who appeared in 26 Our Gang shorts) was on hand for the celebration. Kibrick, who is one of the last surviving original Our Gang cast members, spoke at the premiere about his time at Hal Roach Studios, making the classic comedies. "Our Gang: The Life and Times of The Little Rascals" authors Leonard Maltin and Richard W. Bann were also featured and spoke. The Hal Roach Family was represented by his daughters Maria Carpenter and Jeannie Roach, and Hal Roach's grandson Addison Randall. Other grandchildren attended as well. "My Three Sons" actor (Chip) Stanley Livingston, actress Ruta Lee, Kathy Garver ("Family Affair"), "Little House on the Prairie's Alison Arngrim, actor Keith Coogan (Jackie Coogan's grandson), the actress and widow of Stanley Kramer-Karen Sharpe and their actress daughter Kat, and Jeremy Miller of "Growing Pains", were among the celebrities that also attended the special premiere. I (Matthew Hawes), the fellow who edited this video, designed and created the photo collage that was used by the Hollywood Museum for the exhibit. I actually created it simply for fun at the beginning of 2022 to commemorate the centennial of "Our Gang", never expecting that it would actually be used as part of an official event recognizing the Gang and honoring its history. I am thrilled to have been involved in some way with such an exhibition during the 100th year of Our Gang. Thanks to Robert Satterfield for allowing me to share the photos he took at the museum of the exhibit. If you see this video before it had ended its run, and plan on visiting the Hollywood area in time, make sure to check out this great exhibit! #ourgang #thelittlerascals #HalRoach #classicfilm #movies #hollywood #hollywoodmuseum #100years #anniversary
