Mortal Kombat Conquest Season: 1 Episode: 11 Title: Festival of Death Brief plot description: At midnight, on the highway near the city of Sun Do, two travelers find a strange-looking carriage. Three figures in black robes emerge from it and brutally kill them with huge cleavers, and then someone takes their souls and locks them in a wooden chest. Early in the morning, Raiden, Kung Lao and Li Mei stroll through the Sun Do market, where a herald announces a visiting martial arts festival, where the best fighters from different corners of the Earth Realm will be able to prove themselves. A prize awaits the winner. The festival is represented by their old "friend" Tanya. Raiden does not trust her, but Tanya convinces her that she has no hidden goals, she is only hiding from the wrath of Shao Kahn after failing with the symbol of Edenia, and she needs money to live. At home, Raiden trains a new student named Kayla, for whom he has warm feelings. Kayla is going to participate in the festival, but Raiden believes that first they need to find out more about it. He asks Li Mei and Kung Lao to find out what is happening behind the scenes of this festival. At night, they sneak up to Tanya's camp, around which the same gloomy carriages are parked. They manage to eavesdrop on Tanya's conversation with Sareena. It turns out that Tanya has joined Quan Chi and is helping his army of the living dead replenish its ranks with new souls in the Earth Realm. Sareena notices the surveillance and sets several dead men on Kung Lao and Li Mei. During the fight, they realize that people in robes are invulnerable to blows and knife wounds. They escape from the battlefield while they still have the strength to do so. At the estate, Kung Lao and Li Mei tell everything to Raiden, and he tells Kayla. Kayla does not believe him and thinks that he made it all up on purpose to discourage her from the festival, believing that she is not yet ready for serious trials. However, Kayla promises not to go there. Shang Tsung and Nitara summon Tanya to the mines through a portal and offer her a deal: Tanya gives them the box of souls for Quan Chi, including Raiden's soul, and in exchange, Shang Tsung promises to vouch for her to Shao Kahn. And when the Emperor learns that it was Tanya who helped kill the Champion of Earth Realm, he will reinstate her at court. Tanya asks why she should trust Shang Tsung, and he replies that the one person she definitely cannot trust is Quan Chi, who has surrounded himself with the dead who obey his will. And in order to lure Raiden to the festival, Nitara visits Kayla and introduces herself as Raiden's former student. She says that she is participating in the festival, and that Raiden expects Kayla to be as decisive as she once was in the past. The next day, the festival begins and Raiden discovers that Kayla has escaped. He takes Kung Lao and Li Mei and they set off to rescue her. Kayla goes out to fight Sareena, but they manage to intervene. Sareena sets the undead on them. Realizing what is happening, the other warriors who participated in the festival also join the fight. In the confusion, Tanya tries to escape with the box, but Sareena catches her with the undead. Tanya loses the fight and dies. The box falls from Tanya's hands and opens. The souls that fly out of it attack the visitors. Raiden wins and burns one undead with lightning. But Kayla is unable to escape. She and many other warriors are killed in the ensuing massacre. Raiden, Kung Lao and Li Mei manage to escape. Later, in the Fire Temple, Raiden prays for Kayla's soul. Liu Kang appears and says that evil has many forms, and their enemies are not only in the OutWorld, but also in the Netherrealm. To her surprise, Tanya comes to life, and Sarina, standing over her, says that now Tanya is also a living dead and will do whatever Quan Chi orders her to do, otherwise only ashes will remain of her.
