I took on the Franconia Ridge Loop in New Hampshire’s White Mountains — a challenging 8.6-mile route that climbs over 3,900 feet and summits three 4,000-foot peaks: Little Haystack, Mount Lincoln, and Mount Lafayette. Temps at the summit dropped to 1°F with 60 mph wind gusts, making the exposed ridge section feel like a true alpine test. In this video, I walk you through the route, show what I packed for conditions like this, and break down recovery + strain data from my WHOOP and my hiking partner’s Garmin, including a GPS flyover of the full hike. If you're training for tough hikes, curious about winter conditions in the White Mountains, or just want to see what it takes to tackle one of New England’s hardest loops — this one’s for you. 🏔️ Hike Stats: Distance: ~8.6 miles Elevation Gain: ~3,900 ft Route: Falling Waters Trail → Franconia Ridge Trail → Greenleaf Trail → Old Bridle Path Peaks: Little Haystack (4,780 ft), Mount Lincoln (5,089 ft), Mount Lafayette (5,260 ft) 🎒 Gear Highlights: Boots: Grönanda SafariTrek | High Top Barefoot Boots Base layers, wind/ rain shell, gloves, wool socks, neck gaiter DJI Mavic 3 Pro (limited flight due to wind) Garmin Instinct WHOOP 4.0 🔔 Subscribe if you're into fitness training for real adventure, gear prep, and outdoor performance in unpredictable conditions. #hiking #franconiaridge #mountlafayette #whiteout #whitemountains #winterhiking #outside #ethanisoutside
