Traditionally, quality inspection was done manually. Operators observed products as they went by on a conveyor, or they were spot-checked throughout the day. Human nature as it is, our minds drift, and it isn't easy looking at the same product for an entire 8-hour shift, day in and day out. With the advances of Machine Vision technology, operators can be reallocated to perform less mundane work. Industrial Machine Vision uses a camera, lights, optics, and a control system to automate the quality inspection process. By snapping a picture and using computer vision software to analyze the digital image. The algorithms may inspect, gauge, match, or read features on the product. If a particular feature is missing or outside of tolerance, it is classified either as good or a reject. If the product is a reject, a signal is sent to kick the part off the production line. Compared to academic computer vision, industrial vision systems must be rugged and fault-tolerant enough to survive 7+ years in dusty, oily, hot, and high electrical noise environments. Increased requirements on production quality are driving rapid growth in automation. Tolerances are getting tighter, cost pressures are rising, and traceability requirements make Machine Vision increasingly common in all manufacturing industries. Some modern manufacturing processes just wouldn't be possible without Machine Vision technology. At 4th Vector Technologies, our role as a Machine Vision and Deep Learning Integrator is to architect and integrate a solution that is maintenance-friendly, ensures a quality product, and gathers data to improve the manufacturing process. We can provide stand-alone turnkey and retrofit, automated quality inspection systems with Cognex In-Sight, VisionPro, or MvTec Halcon for a wide range of manufacturing, assembly, and packaging applications.
