Overcoming Challenges to Understand the Elegance of Art in Life | Krishna Shetty | TEDxRVCE

Krishna Shetty, an artist and art critic from a minority background, shares a poignant narrative of his life struggles, having run away from home twice in response to the challenges he faced. Enduring periods of living on just one meal a day, Shetty intimately understood the profound impact of hunger. His empathy for societal issues led him to actively participate in protests, notably as a member of the student council organizing demonstrations against exorbitant hotel prices. Despite facing police targeting and incarceration, where he witnessed the harsh conditions of prisoners, Shetty's resilience prevailed. Through the transformative power of art, he transcended adversity and created a life of comfort. Today, he reflects on the empowering role of art and expresses gratitude for the positive life he has built through his creative pursuits. Krishna Shetty is an artist and art critic, he is the Former Administrator & Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, and Chairman, Karnataka Lalithakala Academy. He has also been the Senior Manager, heading the Public Relations Department at BEML Limited, KGF. His remarkable contributions to the visual arts have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Vincent Van Gogh Award and the Raja Ravivarma Award in 2017. He received the "Venkatappa Award'' in 2020, the highest honor for visual arts bestowed by the Karnataka State Government. He holds the esteemed title of Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Moscow, making him the third Indian to receive this distinction.
