Over the past two years, Wilmington & Western Railroad's 0-6-0 no. 58 has worn a total of four different whistles. This video features clips of 58 wearing all four of these whistles for different events on the Wilmington & Western Railroad. Starting off the compilation is the Lehigh Valley Railroad 3-chime whistle. This whistle was worn on 58 for the first steam excursion of 2019 ("Hockessin Merchant Flyer") in honor of Thomas C. Marshall, Jr., HRCV's Founder and 1st President, who had passed away in February 2019. This whistle was also worn on Wilmington & Western's other operable steam locomotive, 4-4-0 no. 98, from time to time. Next up is the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad 6-Chime whistle. This whistle was worn on 58 during the famous "4th of July Hockessin Special". This was also the first steam excursion of the year on the W&W due to the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown. In the background of the first clip at the NVF Yorklyn Mills, you might be able to hear the whistle from Steve Jensen's 1911 Stanley Model 62 steam car. It's unknown if this whistle was previously worn by any other W&W locomotives (probably not). For the rest of the year in 2020, 58 wore a Baldwin Locomotive Works 3-chime whistle. This whistle is one of my personal favorites. Finally, kicking off the 2021 season, 58 wore and currently wears (as of April 2021) her standard American Locomotive Works (ALCO) 5-Chime whistle. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the many whistles of W&W 58!
