Today we’re comparing the brand new Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2 Nano with a bunch of other Big Muff pedals from EHX and elsewhere, and a number of my other favorite fuzz pedals! ----- Get some fuzz pedals at Thomann: https://www.thomann.de/intl/thlpg_iw0... At Sweetwater: https://sweetwater.sjv.io/LXbvzL ----- The Big Muff 2 came out on a massive wave of hype in the final days of 2025. Now the Big Muff Nano 2 is here, and I couldn’t resist adding one to my pedal collection. But how does it compare to my other EHX Big Muff pedals, my other muffs, and my other fuzzes? Well, I’ve spent a lot of time testing this myself, and here are the results for you to see as well. The Big Muff 2 has the same control set as most muffs: Volume, Sustain and Tone knobs. What differentiates it from the others in the EHX range is the fact it’s built around a dual op-amp circuit, which should give us a significantly different tone. It’s also a bit more expensive, at around $120/€120. (The other EHX offerings go from $80 to around $110.) We’re doing three tests today, each with five pedals. The Big Muff 2 and the classic EHX Big Muff Nano are ever-present, and we’ll rotate the others. First up are the EHX Triangle Big Muff, and the EHX Green Russian – one of my favorites, with its massive amounts of gnarly low end – and the Interstellar Audio Machines Fuzzsquatch Fuzzdrive, which is a boutique take on the EHX Op-Amp Big Muff. Then we move to another muffy shootout, with the two Big Muffs plus the JHS Crimson – a replica of the Mike Matthews Red Army Overdrive from 1992 from the JHS Legends Of Fuzz series – and the Joyo Tiny Huge Fuzz, one of my favorite budget muffs (it’s super cheap at around $40/€40). Finally, we move beyond the muff and try a few of my favorite different fuzzes against the Big Muffs. First up is the JHS Bender, which is a Tone Bender MKIII circuit. Then we have the DigiTech DOD Carcosa, which is a fantastic and versatile fuzz option that can be had for around the $100/€100 mark. The final contestant is the Boss Waza Craft FZ-1w, a wonderfully flexible modern fuzz option that’s also based on the Tone Bender topology. So, sit back and have a listen to the various tones on offer, and let me know what you think of the Big Muff 2 – and the competition – in the comments! That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
