As a cichlid enthusiast, my preference has always been for riverine cichlids. During my time in Tanzania, I made several trips to the Malagarasi River to specifically search for riverine cichlids. There, I became fascinated by the genus Orthochromis. Naturally, I wanted to research it further online, where I subsequently found interesting information from a well-known ichthyologist, John P. Friel, concerning several undescribed Orthochromis species from Tanzania and Zambia. A great desire grew within me to observe these undescribed species in their natural habitat. This led to four trips to Zambia and several more to the Malagarasi drainage. My friend Michel Keijman asked me if I would make a documentaire about these adventures, which he wanted to show at his well-organized WAC meetings in Germany, which many of you will remember. So I did, and a few years later, after I had already presented these new species to the media on numerous occasions, several species have since been described. I've made a note for these described species at the bottom of the image. I hope you enjoy this video.
