In this video I talk about Prince/Emperor Lotor and the villains of Voltron: Legendary Defender. Can we really trust Lotor, are his motives genuine, and does he really care about Allura? Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery the show's co-executive producers have confirmed that what he told the Paladins about wanting peace is true. Even without their confirmation, in the episode Changing of the Guard in season three, Lotor told the Galra Empire he was going to change things. Lotor doesn't want to be like his father ex-Emperor Zarkon. Except that's the path he is heading down. He wants to carry on Honerva's work. That's why he needs Princess Allura. She is a powerful Altean. She reminds him of Honerva and he reminds her of King Alfor. Lotor is going to reopen the rift thanks to the Paladins help. He'll unleash the dark creatures which are beings of quintessence. That's why he will turn on Team Voltron. They don't want to risk the safety of the universe for the rift to be open... but Lotor will to reach his goal. If he really wants to reach his goal he might have to exchange his life force for it. Like Allura's done before. For instance when she reinfused the Balmera with her quintessence. Or sacrificed herself to the White Lion.
