Pastor Peter speaks from Matthew 21:28-31, where Jesus told the Pharisees the parable of the disobedient son. Jesus concluded by telling the Pharisees, “tax collectors and prostitutes are going into the Kingdom of God ahead of you.” That should be a wake-up call for all of us today about the toxic effects of religious pride. The Pharisees were leaning on their own understanding, proud of their superior intellect and elevating themselves above the common person Jesus sought to save. Jesus beautifully modeled a life fully surrendered and yielded to the Lord. Each day we can ask Him to take us higher into His presence. Not matter how long we’ve served Him, there will always be another level higher he can take us. He disarms the power of our carnal instincts that try to lead us into sin and the remnants of our human nature that tempt us to walk in pride. ENJOY! Jesus cast out the Legion of demons that were in him and suddenly the man was in his right mind. When the people of the region saw him healed they asked Jesus to leave. Why would they do that? Shouldn't they have emptied out the psych ward and said, “Look if you could do it for that guy then all these other people can be healed too,” right? But they couldn't grasp what was happening, it was too big of a shift. Instead, they told him to leave because their pigs were dead. Selah Sometimes we want to hold on to our pigs. Luke 8:37 says, “people of the Gerasene district Asked him to leave them, for they had been seized with great fear.” It was too unusual, it was too out of the ordinary. What I'm saying is, we're praying for God to move among us, but sometimes Jesus would tell a story that was difficult to understand so they would mentally check out. Later and they would say, “Can you explain to us what the parable means?” In the parable of the sower, Jesus warned of the deceitfulness of riches. Here in America we live in first-world country, we’re prosperous and we can easily fall victim to the deceitfulness of riches. When Trisha and I were in Mozambique, that was not one of their problems. They were very, very poor, just wondering about They were not caught up than the deceitfulness of riches. They had a different battle that they were facing. We have to recognize our regional territorial spirits Our comfort can almost be our biggest enemy when it comes to staying hungry for God. So, Jesus told this parable to the Pharisees Matthew 21:28-31, “Yeshua said to him I tell you that the tax collectors and prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you.” The Pharisees may have said, “Come again Jesus? We're the Pharisees! We like our pigs!” They we're leaning on their own understanding. They knew the Scriptures better than everyone else, but they were arrogant. These prostitutes and tax collectors were getting into the kingdom ahead of the Pharisees. Their intellect had become idol. Another risk of our culture is that we're not humbled by the Word of God. We look at it and read it and think we know what it all means, that there's nothing more for me to know. But “to you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God.” (Mark 4:11) In Psalms 19:7 it says, “The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” You don't need to be informed in all the details to make good decisions. Our education must be subservient to the will of God. There is a stronghold here in the New York Region of this intellectual version of Christianity that is trying to normalize sin. In this picture you see Jesus reaching down to lift us higher. The Apostle Paul who, before his conversion, served under Gamaliel, had all the head knowledge. But Jesus said, “I want to take you up to another level now. I'm going to give you a different lens to look at the Word through.” Every one of us here should say, “Yes,
