Over half of Brits can't name a Black British historical figure. This doc explores efforts to include Black history in UK schools, featuring educators, authors, and activists pushing for change. Presenter Aaron Roach Bridgemen speaks to a variety of contributors and organisations who are looking to change this. Antoinette Bramble, the Deputy Mayor of Hackney, developed Hackney's Diverse Curriculum - the Black Contribution, a nine-week lesson plan to highlight the contributions of Black people to British history. Fiona Walker, History Subject Leader, comments on the lack of any reference to black British people prior to the second world war. Founders of Lit Legacies, Amy Saleh and Cashan, Campbell discuss the work they are doing to bring black British Literature into educational spaces. Jason Arday (FRSA) is a British sociologist, writer and fundraiser who talks about how important it is to understand the contribution black people have made to the UK. Stating that “Black history is for all people, not just black people.” Author of Manny and the Baby, Varaidzo, expresses the impact of black people seeing themselves positively reflected in Literature.
