Syracuse Mayor-elect Sharon Owens sat down with CNY Central on Wednesday during the NBC 3 5 p.m. newscast. Owens soundly defeated Republican Tom Babilon and independents Alfonso Davis and Tim Rudd. Given the Democrats' dominance in Syracuse, she was always the frontrunner in the race. Her campaign focused on affordable housing, public safety, the city's youth and inclusivity. Her election was historic. She is set to become Syracuse's first Black mayor. She is also the second woman to hold the highest office in Syracuse. Stephanie Miner, a fellow Democrat, was mayor from 2010 to 2018.
