Going on a Fathom volunteering cruise was transformative, but it was great to be on port 3 1/2 days to be able to enjoy the rest Puerto Plata has to offer. Out of Amber Cove cruise ship port, the 27 waterfalls excursion was the spice of adventure my vacation needed. Natural water slides, cliffs, and deep canyons have been carved by the icy cold Damajagua River over the centuries. This has created the ultimate adventure waterpark in the middle of the rain forest! Plenty of shade, rest areas, and patience of the Iguana Mama guides made the hike to the river not only pleasant, but truly enjoyable. Once in the water, it was all action! Sliding, swimming, cliff jumping! I have traveled to over 30 countries and can say with confidence that the 27 waterfalls Puerto Plata excursion was of one of the best day trips I have ever taken. In my TOP 5 indeed!
