Extraordinary work was accomplished in the realms of architecture & sculpture during the Gupta Era. Numerous cave temples have continued to remain the priceless gifts of the Gupta period. In this talk Śatāvadhānī Dr. R. Ganesh also highlights how Kalidasa was the zenith of the Gupta period in every respect. In his works, we see a reflection of all the achievements of the Gupta era across diverse areas like Vedānta, philosophy, sciences & performing arts. A keen scholar or a sensitive reader will be able to mentally recreate the whole Gupta culture by understanding Kalidasa. And therein lies the greatness of Kalidasa. If there is one Indian poet who completely and sublimely represents the ethos of an entire era, it is Kalidasa. - 0:00 Start 0:07 Gupta Legacy and our History books 07:29 Gupta Period - Commentaries on vedic literature 17:15 Codification in the form of Sutras 21:10 Literature 25:16 Caturbhāṇī 27:38 Kalidasa - Gupta period 32:50 Astronomers - āryabhaṭa, varāha-mihira, brahma-gupta 37:20 Mathura - centre of great sculpture & architecture 37:44 Difference between Kanishka & Gupta Period Art 39:10 Paintings of Ajanta Caves Represent The Glories of Gupta Art 40:40 Ajanta Cave Sculptures Destroyed by Invaders 44: 00 Kalidasa’s verse as example of the Ardinareshwara work in badami 47:43 Deogarh - Sheshashayi 49:28 Deogarh - Gajendra Moksha 54:30 Gupta period art from Mathura to Sarnath - Nodal points 01:00:52 Gupta Period Kings & Gold Coins 01:03:41 Gupta Period Paintings 01:05:03 Commentary on Vātsyāyana's Kāmasūtra by Yaśodharā, named Jayamaṅgalā Ṣaḍaṅga - Six limbs of Paintings 1:22:26 Kalidasa gives description in Meghaduta of the dance of the Devadasis in the Mahakala Temple, Ujjaini 01:07:11 Gupta Period Performing Arts, Music & Dance 01:08:08 Bharatā Created 18 Jātīs of Gītis (songs) With Details of Svarās, Vādi, Saṃvādī.
