A 60-year-old man visited us with a long history of tobacco, bidi, smoking, and hookah addiction. He complained of hoarseness in his voice and had tried various medications without improvement. Additionally, he experienced coughing up blood. We conducted an indirect laryngoscopy and discovered a lump in his vocal cords. To gather more information, we recommended a CT scan of his neck and chest, as well as a direct laryngoscopy. Subsequently, we performed a biopsy and additional scans for a comprehensive diagnosis. Upon diagnosis, we advised the patient to undergo a total laryngectomy, which involves the complete removal of the voice box. Naturally, the patient was concerned about losing his voice as a result of the surgery. We reassured him that voice restoration is possible through a TEP (Tracheoesophageal Puncture) voice prosthesis. Following the surgery, we provided the patient with speech therapy, which significantly improved his ability to speak within six month.
