In this video, I spend 3 days on the rugged west coast of Victoria, Australia, living as a whaler from over 200 years ago. Using only traditional camping gear, period clothing, and the simple food of the time, I explore the life of the early coastal pioneers of the late 1700s and early 1800s — men who risked their lives hunting the largest mammals on earth. Based near the historic whaling settlement of Portland, I camp on the wild shoreline, travel in my traditional wooden dinghy, study the history of the region, and scan the horizon for migrating whales, just as those early mariners once did. 🐋 What’s in the Video: ✔️ Life and hardships of early Australian whalers ✔️ Heritage camping on the windswept coast ✔️ Authentic food, clothing, and bushcraft of the era ✔️ Canvas, wool, leather, and steel — no modern gear ✔️ Looking deeper into the history of whaling settelments on the coast 🎥 Part of my ongoing series exploring traditional bushcraft, historical camping, and the survival methods of Australia’s early pioneers — stepping back in time to experience the challenges, skills, and daily life of those who shaped our history. All drone footage of whales purchased from stockfootage websites.
