Officer Involved in a Shootout With Armed Suspect

SUSPECT CHARGES: Thompson is being charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, as well as aggravated assault from the shooting the day prior. POLICE REPORT: Fort Worth, Texas — On Sunday, May 19, 2024, at approximately 8:19 p.m., a Fort Worth Police Officer from East division was alerted on a possible suspect vehicle related to a shooting near the 4800 block of Miller Ave. that took place on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The officer was behind the suspect vehicle and prior to initiating his emergency lighting, a witness stated to investigators that the suspect pulled over and got out of the vehicle with his hands up. As the officer started getting out of his vehicle, the suspect reached for a gun and began shooting several rounds at the officer. The officer was able to return fire as the suspect got back in his vehicle and fled the scene. The officer was injured and believed to have been shot, but found out later at the hospital that the injuries he sustained resulted from flying debris from the patrol vehicle during the shootout. The officer followed the suspect for about a mile before his patrol vehicle became disabled. At this point, responding Fort Worth officers continued pursuing the suspect vehicle into a neighboring city. The suspect, 33-year-old Devoreia Thompson, was found and arrested at his Arlington home Sunday night, within two hours of the shootout. The officer has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for a year and a half and is a lateral transfer officer from a neighboring agency. He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday night with minor injuries and is with his family. #police #bodycam #shooting #lawenforcement
