This new series of Giant Talon bikes puts Giant back in the hot seat with the some of the best value hardtails on the market. This Talon 2 is the middle of 3 versions of Talon offered in North America. Other markets see up to 5 different versions of the Talon being offered. At $929 Canadian / $750 USD, this is the first sub $1000 bike I know of to include either a thru-axle frame or a thru-axle fork... and it has both. The big advantage of this is the added strength and stiffness of the frame and fork though there is a big secondary benefit of thru-axles being there is no vagueness about the axle in the dropout so it can help to prevent brakes from rubbing from the wheel not being fully inserted into the dropout. At 32.2 lbs, this Talon 2 is actually lighter than the higher end Talon 1 (I attribute that extra weight on the Talon 1 being due to the dropper seatpost). This weight appears to be about a pound lighter when compared to the similarly spec'd version of the Trek Marlin or Norco Storm.
