Lord Parashurama founded a Shiva temple here and named the place Shivapuri which in process of time became changed to Shivpura and then got shortened to Pura. Pura is about 4.5 Km from the nearest town, Baleni, which is well-served by the highway from Meerut 30 Km to Baghpat 27 Km. Twice a year, on the occasion of Shraavana and Phalguna, Shiva devotees carry water from the holy River Ganges at Haridwar, walking all the way, as an offering to Lord Shiva.
