OB Peacock Cichlid Spawning (breeding)

The male OB prepares a spawning area, this could be sand mount or on top of a flat rock. He will gather sand and clean it while dropping it to make his nest. Then he will chase all the female's until he finds one that is ready to spawn. He will continuously keep all other females and males in one side of the tank. The female that is ready will then come down to the nest and start dropping her eggs on the substrate while simultaneously the male will release his sperm on them. The female will then pickup the eggs and hold them in her mouth. This process could take hours. When the female is done, she will leave the area and hide or join the other females. The female will then incubate the eggs in her mouth for 3 weeks or more until the fry are developed enough to where she will spit them out.
