This is a recording from the APS 2021 Literacy and Humanities Institute. APS Indian Education Department's Zuni language teacher will provide presentation attendees with a broad overview of NM's Indigenous, Native American languages and its' unique culture and highlight specific time periods in the development of American Indian Education that is juxtaposed with the history of United States. As NM public school educators, it is our responsibility to educate and advocate for the accountability, understanding, and respect that should be afforded to our Indigenous, Native American community with whom our colleagues, programs and departments work towards culturally and linguistically responsive teaching and learning. It is through this understanding, therefore, that we begin in APS to build a baseline of critical consciousness in affirming, perpetuating, and validating Indigenous, Native American students' culture and home languages of Indigenous nations and Indigenous Peoples in New Mexico. The presentation will be supported with Google slide visuals; Indigenous, Native American culture and language resources will be provided for further inquiry and research.
