Alex Tuch tied it up a few minutes later, redirecting a shot by Rasmus Dahlin. Dahlin notched his own to tie the game closing the second period. Jason Zucker scored early in the third and Thompson followed with a breakaway goal to further Buffalo's lead. Thompson secured a hat trick, scoring on Boston's empty net to close the game. This was the forward's eighth career hat trick.
