Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Here is part I of this series, where I make most of the jacket: • Making an 1890s walking suit | part I, the... It seems I've been in a late Victorian, 1890s timeline for a while! I had been planning this project for a while, but had been put off by the intimidating tailoring required for the jacket. However, I am really glad I did it, as I learned a lot and really like the result. In this video, I make the sleeves and skirt. The sleeves are based on a sleeve from the Keystone Jacket Cutter. This was expanded into a much fuller sleeve and heavily altered. The sleeves are made of one layer of wool, one layer of tarlatan (which is essential as it is my only support for the volume), and the silk lining. I really wish I had just bought one meter of black velvet online from the start, as I had to get some for the hat in the end, but I am also glad I recycled the scraps of my friend's dress into this. The cuffs are based on an example in the Harper's Bazaar books. The skirt is based on the Keystone 1890s skirt, here is that video too: • Making a late Victorian walking skirt Anyway, I am really happy to see this costume coming together! The next video is going to be about making the blouse waist and belt, and hopefully the costume reveal (if the weather allows!) I also made a hat and will have a video just for that soon too.
