I had been searching for a replacement for a failing Hunter Rockefeller 12-inch oscillating table fan (Reference numbers 90042 and possibly 90044 - officially part of the AirMax 9004X fans), that I had purchased in 2006 or 2007. That Hunter fan was a beast. It probably weighed 30 pounds, but it was very old and the three blades were terribly rusted. In addition, the screw that allowed me to open and clean the blades had rusted a few years ago, so this thing was on death’s door. I was looking for quality over price, as I’m looking for a fan to use while I sleep for the next few years. I found the Vornado Silver Swan Alchemy Oscillating Vintage Fan and figured I would give it a try, just because of the price. This one comes with three speeds, and adjustable head angle, oscillation with lockout and a 5-year warranty. Now that I have it here and I have used it, I would say the main difference between this and the Hunter is that the Hunter just felt like it was made better. That thing was made a lifetime ago, however and things of change since then. I think the Hunter had a 10 year will warranty on the motor. My Hunter was still working after 18 or so years, but it needed to be replaced because it was getting loud at times. I would say that the airflow on the Vornado Silver Swan Alchemy Oscillating Vintage Fan is equivalent to that on the old Hunter that I was replacing. That said, it seems that the Vornado produces a much wider angle of breeze, so much so that my wife can feel it on her side of the bed as well, whereas that wasn’t the case with the Hunter. Was that due to the fact that the Hunter had all types of corrosion on the blades? I have no way of knowing that, because that type of Hunter fan went out of production years and years ago. All in all, I am very happy with the Vornado, so much so that I’m officially endorsing it here. Please follow, like and share. That stated, it was more expensive than the brushed nickel or the matte black versions. I originally purchased this for $179.99 on Amazon, but the price dropped down to $130.07, while I was still within my return window for the first one, forcing me to: 1) buy another fan 2) initiating a return on the first one that I bought 3) immediately sending back the second one that I was sent in its original packaging with the return code from the first one that I bought. It’s absolutely insane that Amazon makes you do crazy stuff like that instead of just price massing themselves or offering us a gift card for the difference. That said, prime returns are free and it was a $50 difference.
