Bracing (AFO) considerations for spasticity versus foot drop

An ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is a brace used to keep the foot up when walking. Typically, this type of brace is recommended for foot drop (or drop foot) and/or spasticity. However, these are just symptoms of some other medical condition including (but not limited to) multiple sclerosis (MS), Guillain barre syndrome (GBS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and/or spinal cord injury (SCI). Depending on the medical diagnosis, there are some factors that should be considered before deciding whether or not an AFO is right for you.
