Best known as the vocalist/rhythm guitarist of Sum 41, Deryck posesses a familiar and tenor-friendly voice that contains a bright-light, and agile tone. Initially with Sum's debut, he had had the fresh, punk Delonge-esque voice and he was singing mostly in the G4 area. Later on within the second and third albums, Sum's music had become heavier and darker, and Whibley's singing approach was becoming more aggressive and powerful, perhaps even abrasive at times, you could say, and his tessitura got expanded up to ~B4 which had been his "money note" for a decent amount of time. Moreover his clean singing is also really smooth and appealing, and shouldn't be ignored. Despite having a rather small total range, Deryck's music & strong 4th octave belts are here to ensure that he will remain be one of the most remarkable singers and musicians in the modern rock scene
