On February 19, 1945, a 23-year-old toolmaker from Dayton, Ohio stepped onto the black volcanic sand of Iwo Jima with a weapon that wasn’t supposed to exist. Corporal Tony Stein had turned an aircraft machine gun into a hand-held monster the Marines called “The Stinger.” In a battle designed to bleed America dry, Stein ran barefoot through volcanic ash, made eight trips under fire, evacuated wounded Marines and shredded pillboxes that had stopped entire companies. This is the full story of the Barefoot Corporal of Iwo Jima — from factory floor and Paramarine training, to the Stinger’s creation, the brutal fight for Iwo Jima, and the Medal of Honor that followed. This is a 1 hour 50 minute full-length World War II documentary about ingenuity, sacrifice, and the cost of taking a tiny island that became sacred ground. 🔔 Subscribe for more WW2 documentaries, Pacific War stories, and untold Medal of Honor histories. ⏱️ Chapters (1:50:00 total) 00:00 – The Barefoot Corporal of Iwo Jima 04:35 – Black Sand, Sulfur, and a Killing Ground 10:20 – From Dayton Toolmaker to U.S. Marine 16:45 – Paramarines, Bougainville, and First Combat 23:15 – Building “The Stinger” in a Hawaiian Shed 30:40 – Landing on Iwo Jima: Intelligence Was Wrong 38:05 – Standing Up Under Machine-Gun Fire 46:30 – Eight Barefoot Runs to the Beach 55:50 – Pillboxes, Tunnels, and Kuribayashi’s Plan 1:03:40 – Night Infiltrators and a Failing Weapon 1:10:15 – Climbing Suribachi and Refusing Evacuation 1:18:40 – Hospital Ship, Bad News, and Coming Back 1:26:10 – Hill 362A and the Final Patrol 1:35:40 – What Happened to the Stinger After the War 1:43:30 – Medal of Honor, USS Stein, and Lasting Legacy 1:48:30 – Why Tony Stein’s Story Still Matters Today 📚 What you’ll learn in this documentary: How one Marine’s battlefield innovation changed infantry firepower for a day on Iwo Jima Why Iwo Jima’s defenses were unlike anything U.S. forces had faced in the Pacific The true story behind “The Stinger” and why none of the originals survive How Tony Stein’s actions saved lives, broke through fortified lines, and earned the Medal of Honor Why his story became part of Marine Corps training and legend 👍 If this story moved you, please: Like the video to help more people find it Comment your thoughts about Stein, Iwo Jima, or other unsung WW2 heroes Share it with someone who loves real, historically accurate WW2 documentaries Hashtags #WW2 #IwoJima #MedalOfHonor #USMarines #WW2Documentary #PacificWar
