This Foley audio and ADR replacement of a scene from John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. Created as part of post-production project for HND Sound Production Year 1. March 2017 Our task was to choose 3 min film scene and replace the entire audio using Foley recording and actor ADR. I mixed the captured audio using protools and used various Waves EQ and effects plug-ins to recreate a mix of dialogue, diegetic, non-diegetic sounds, ambience, room tone and synchresis of sounds that closest represented the video clip. Due time constraints and lack of studio time with this project, I recorded all the captured audio using a Roland Edirol R05 portable recorder and an Azden SMX10 microphone. Capturing various noisey items at home and importing them to the session at college. I chose this scene for my love of 80's Sci-fi Horror movies, but also to have fun with the humorously grotesque nature of the genre and its use of props instead of CGI. This way I could recreate a more realistic audible representation of what is happening on screen and not come across as pretentious. Unfortunately, due to lack of experience of location recording and the hurriedly sub-sufficient method of recording each foley sound, It did not work out as I had intended. If you don't at least get a laugh from this video, then I apologise to any John Carpenter fans who see this. Submitted as part of DAW1 post-production April 2017.
