Paddlers often ask how best to pack their TRAK kayak for a long expedition. The answer is always, "it depends." How long will you be out for? Who else will split the gear with you? How much water do you need to bring? All these factors will influence your packing system with a TRAK kayak. Legendary adventurers like Frank Wolf (@frankwolf70) have been paddling TRAK kayaks in a wide range of environments for many years, from Polar Bear country to the Darien Gap. Each time, Frank adapts his system to the conditions he faces and the needs of his team (if he has one). For his recent solo expedition down the entire length of the Mackenzie River, Frank managed to pack as much as possible into his kayak by using multiple smaller dry bags, some with their own 'retrieval line' attached for easy access. This time, Frank decided to forgo using the 60L gear floatation bags included with his TRAK in favour of multiple smaller bags. In his words, "using separate dry bags makes organization and packing far more efficient [when] you’re out for several weeks." What might you do similarly (or differently) from Frank's setup for the Mackenzie River?
