Africa at John Ball Zoo. Filmed May 19, 2022. Last time we visited John Ball Zoo we trekked through the North American woodlands and journeyed through the South American rainforest. Today, we’re continuing with the zoo’s third continental section; Africa, a region that is well represented at most zoos. John Ball’s Africa features 9 species living in 6 habitats. We’ll begin by learning how the zoo built their Meerkat exhibit to be one of the most modern, renewable zoo designs so far. The unique designs continue with the panoramic African Savanna, where we’ll come across the shy, forest dwelling Mountain Bongo. A pair of thatch-roofed boma huts look into the Lions of Lake Manyara, another impressively designed habitat, and to finish our tour we’ll meet the six-member Chimpanzee Troop that lives in the lush Mokomboso Valley.
