Photos and video clips taken on the Salvation islands, French Guyane, on June 2012 by Giac. Salvation islands, les iles du Salut, are a small archipelago of three islands: Royale, S. Joseph and ile du Diable. The islands were penal colonies which hosted more than 3500 convicts during about one century. Living conditions for the convicts were particularly harsh: from 30 to 48% of the convicts died during their staying on the islands. Henri Charrière spent nine years on the islands and escaped twice. On 1969, he wrote the book "Papillon" which became a bestseller and soon later in 1973 was featured in a movie directed by Franklin Schaffner with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman and music by Jerry Goldsmith.
