Learn from my various mistakes trying to get OPENSTEP running on an IBM ThinkPad 560 (using a PowerBook G3 in the process). In this video I'll go through step by step instructions on how to get OPENSTEP running on a ThinkPad by means of using actual installation media in the form of floppy disks and CD-ROMs. I'll follow this up by some other, alternative forms of installation that don't require actual floppy and CD drives. Supposedly this is the same machine (just the model, not the ACTUAL machine ;-) ) that Steve Jobs used when he got back to Apple after the merger with NeXT. Not sure what tricks he used to get this running but on my system it is super slow. I'll play around with it for a bit and might do another video about its usability when I have some productivity software installed. Some resources I mention during the video: CD-ROM and floppy images can be found from various sources but this one's pretty comprehensive including Y2K patches: https://openstep.bfx.re/ A very good write up of someone else's experience, including the specific type of Adaptec PCMCIA card that works well as well as a link for the source to the display drivers: https://pappp.net/?p=32643 Here's another good write up about installing OPENSTEP on a laptop: https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Installi...
