But everything around us informs us that we're simply living life as it should be, as it has been, as it will be... in the streamline of the expected. We think, "I'm free, I make my own choices. I can attend school where I want, work the career I want, choose the home I want... ... every bit of it is what. I. want. I. WANT. And still we are left wanting. enclosed in a cage that tells us to be satisfied with service projects, losing weight, a yearly vacation, a degree, volunteer hours, a new relationship. "Those are good things!" we exclaim. "What's so cage-like about them? I keep them in perspective of course, first things first. I'm committed to my church, my family, serving where I can serve, giving what I can give. Isn't life about that balance?" But the cage isn't a question of "enjoying good things." It's not a question of our church, our income, our career, or our commitment to responsibility. Down deep, underneath those questions, is the cage... enclosing, constricting, suffocating... Telling us what's too unreasonable for us ... what's impossible Telling us what might happen for others, but will never. happen. for. us. Telling us the limits of God ... and whispering that we should keep well away from the edge... CAGED. But the imprisonment isn't entirely successful. We. Still. Know. We know our spirits were stitched with threads of courage and breathed into with infinite breath... Every now and then, we lie awake as the world sleeps, and we yearn indescribably for MORE... for a life outside of the cage. We watch TV series, movies, play video games, hoping to feed that yearning. But in the realest part of us, we know we weren't meant to watch it. We were meant to LIVE IT. The cage tells us we'll never make it out, that we don't hold the key... that we aren't the great ones, the "called ones," the "special ones," It's a LIE. We already have the key in our hands. It's a three-letter word. YES.
