Join me on my 2 night 3 day journey to Ooty. 🏔️ DAY 1: Exploring Ooty Stay: Itsy Twin Falls (₹2500/night) – A cozy retreat surrounded by greenery with good service. Sightseeing: • Ooty Lake 🚣 – Boating & cycling available, but overly crowded and commercialized. • Botanical Garden 🌿 – Home to rare plants & a 20M-year-old fossil tree, but not exciting unless you’re into botany. • Rose Garden 🌹 – 3000+ rose varieties, but seasonal bloom affects the experience. • Dodabetta Tea & Chocolate Factory 🍵🍫 – Witnessed tea-making & tasted Ooty’s famous homemade chocolates. • Dodabetta Peak 🏞️ – Highest Nilgiri peak (2,637m), offering breathtaking (though sometimes cloudy) views. ⸻ 🚗 DAY 2: Coonoor Day Trip (₹1800 round-trip cab) The scenic drive with lush tea estates made this a must-visit! Places Explored: • Singara Tea Estate 🍃 – A serene tea factory visit with fresh Nilgiri tea tasting. • Dolphin’s Nose 🐬 – Stunning viewpoint with a distant view of Catherine Falls. • Lamb’s Rock ⛰️ – Misty valleys and panoramic views of tea plantations. • MRC Base 🏅 – Glimpsed the disciplined life at the historic Madras Regimental Centre. • Sim’s Park 🌲 – A peaceful botanical garden with unique flora. ⸻ 🏕️ DAY 3: Toda Village & Pykara (₹2650 round-trip cab) • Toda Village 🏡 – Met the indigenous Toda tribe & learned about their rich culture and unique hut architecture. • Pykara Waterfalls 💦 – Stunning cascades in a tranquil forest setting. • Pykara Boat House & Lake 🛶 – Enjoyed a peaceful boat ride in one of Ooty’s best spots. • Shooting Point 🎬 – A picturesque open meadow featured in many films. • Pykara Pine Forest 🌲 – A dreamy forest with towering pine trees, perfect for photography. • Ooty Wax Museum 🕯️ – Small but interesting wax statue exhibit. ⸻ ✨ FINAL THOUGHTS Final Thoughts While Ooty has its charm, some tourist spots felt a bit overhyped. The true beauty of Ooty lies beyond the crowded attractions—in the serene landscapes, tea estates, and tribal villages. Coonoor turned out to be a hidden gem, offering stunning viewpoints and a more peaceful experience. The trip ended with a refreshing visit to Pykara, leaving me with beautiful memories of the Nilgiri hills.
