Joan of Arc ( original French: Jeanne d'Arc ) is a 1900 film made by • Georges Méliès is the first film based on the French national heroine Joan of Arc . The film is developed in eleven scenes that were colored by hand. The role of the protagonist is given to Jeanne Calvière, while Méliès and Jeanne d'Alcy play several other supporting roles in addition to the heroine's parents. (00:06) The young peasant girl, Joan of Arc (Jeanne Calvière), has a vision of the saints Catherine and Margaret and later the archangel Michael who announce her mission: to save France devastated by the Hundred Years' War. (00:20) Joan returns home where she attempts to explain herself to her parents, Isabella and James (Jeanne d'Alcy and Georges Méliès), and her uncle. The relatives try to persuade her, but Joan leaves for Vaucouleurs to meet the governor: Captain Robert de Baudricourt. (00:58) At the entrance to the town, two soldiers would like to prevent the young woman from passing, but Joan manages to persuade them and get through. (01:32) A feast is being held in the governor's palace. Joan appears and, at first derided, later succeeds in gaining everyone's trust. (02:22) The French army, led by the Captain Baudricourt and Joan parades in pomp through the streets of Orleans. (03:54) In Reims Cathedral, Charles VII is crowned king.
